About Me
When I was 16, I took a trip into New York City with my girlfriend. We were sitting in a cab, going to the Museum of Natural History, when the car passed by The New York Times building.
I stared up at it, and the words jumped out of my mouth: “I'm going to write there someday.” She looked at me, puzzled, before responding: “What?”
Perhaps it was an epiphany. At the time, I thought I was going to college to become an accountant. I even surprised myself with the declaration that I would write for the Times. But looking back — that's when I stopped resisting the fact that I was a writer.
Now, four years later, I'm majoring in Communication Studies and am a sports writer and Senior Editor at The Michigan Daily.
I'm from Rockville Centre, on Long Island. I grew up with five older siblings — James, Mike, TJ, Vinnie, and Janet. I'm also the uncle to four kids, soon to be five — Averie, Caroline, Joe, and Abby. Because of them, I’ve built way too many LEGO sets in the past year than any college guy should. That's likely why a part of me is still a goofy little kid.
My dream is to become a professional sports writer — at the Times, or really anywhere. I owe my parents for giving me their blessing to pursue that dream after they thought I was coming to Michigan to study business.
But if I could watch baseball and write about it my whole life, that would be a pretty good deal — I’d get to keep the part of me that’s a little kid forever.
Minor in Writing
As a sophomore at Michigan, I started my path toward receiving a Minor in Writing. My first step was to take the writing Gateway course. Below are the three projects I produced in that class.
Project I details why I write, and it was inspired by a hockey article I wrote for my college newspaper — The Michigan Daily. For Project II, I was tasked with repurposing my old Common App essay. The original essay was about watching my brother James go through chemotherapy, and I transformed it into a personal story that could appear in The New Yorker. After recording a 37-minute conversation with James for Project II, I decided to remediate that audio into a 16-minute podcast for Project III.
Below, you can find components of each project.

The Michigan Daily
I joined my college newspaper, The Michigan Daily, in October of my freshman year. Since then, I've covered soccer, track, lacrosse, softball, and hockey.
My dream is to become a sports journalist after college, and I included links to my favorite work below. If you're interested, you can follow the link at the bottom of the page to the rest of my articles.
